This might become a microblog about photography, blogging, emacs, analog tools, tech, etc. We'll see.

20260311-pelicans Pelicans, Hobe Sound FL (2013). Leica M3.

So, yeah, it's a point-and-click sort of day. I read a post earlier and thought I'd write a note about it, but the whole thing felt like too much work, so I didn't bother. I've been having issues with Emacs, so my Hugo workflow is wonky. The daily blog would have been suitable and easy enough, but I'm wrestling with Markdown vs Rich Text in Tinderbox. I'm here in Pure Blog writing about writing about it, which is some kind of meta nonsense. Some days I miss Ghost, tbh.

I post more frequently even on my once-in-a-while blogs than many people post on their only blogs, so where's the guilt coming from, then?

One of the draws of macOS has always been its level of polish. That's increasingly no longer a thing. Still, it's a few lengths ahead of Linux on the available software front.

Nacho Dip

I'm trying hard to get good enough at using Darktable that I don't mind using Darktable. It's slow going.

macOS or Linux...one of them should go. Using both is crazy-making and I don't know if it's sustainable. I spent most of the day with Linux. I've gotten to the point where I almost prefer KDE and Gnome to macOS. It's the software, though. Darktable could eventually pull me from Capture One and/or Lightroom. We'll see. Emacs works well on both. But I want Tinderbox and BBEdit and TheBrain and Curio. I want Emacs bindings everywhere, by default. I want PopClip and Keyboard Maestro and Raycast. There are alternatives on Linux for some of them, but most feel...lesser. Thing is, I don't need any of it. I just want it. If I can get over that, I'd go all in.

2026-roll-005_24 Wearing my hat (2026). Leica M3 / HP5 @1600

I spend many, many hours changing and tweaking my photography workflows, just in case I actually take photos one day. Also, I've made a mess doing it.

People sometimes take the things I say too seriously. My whole blogging history is littered with temporary opinions and untested theories. I write what I'm thinking, at that moment. I'm moody and impressionable. It's my fault. Do not expect consistency.

"That's the difference between intention and drift, which is a thread running through your whole life plan." No shit, Claude. :)

  • STATUS: macOS
  • TODO: Spend time away from the computer(s)
  • WATCHING: Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (I like it!)

Thought I'd bring back the status block here and see how it feels. Should it go at the bottom of the daily post instead? Dunno.

I made the mistake of reading the news this morning. It made me furious (like most days), so I went to visit my grandson and now I feel much better.

“Who among us can be happy and proud of having all this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids...”

Current is a new RSS reader. It looks interesting, but damn that page uses a lot of words to describe it. It makes simple seem complicated.

So is this going to be my main blog or what?

Contact sheets hanging to dry

I finally got into the darkroom this morning. Caught up on making contact sheets. They're hanging to dry. I keep telling myself that contact sheets aren't worth the effort, but I feel guilty not having them, so I always catch up.

Gotta say, using a CMS that is tailor-made for running a simple blog and nothing else is pretty refreshing.

I don't feel much like computering today. Most of the weekend was spent over-computering about everything, and I'm weary of it. There are no other plans, but the weather is supposed to be rather nice for a change, so I should take advantage of that. Otherwise, I'll end up on another dead end like with Raw Therapee yesterday. Hours and hours with no gains. I have too many days like that.

Took the dog to the park for some roaming about. It's a beautiful day here. Gets my mind of all the horrible stuff...for a few minutes.

Rewinding film in the M6

I woke up today and found that this blog was still using Pure Blog, just as I left it. I wasn't surprised, really, but sometimes I think that blog gnomes sneak blog changes into my life while I sleep, so it's good to check.

Having spent too much time worrying about how to render different post types or short vs long content, I'm now trying the I Don't Care method. Everything is just a post. Let's see how that feels, Right now it feels liberating.

Spent a couple of days putting this blog together and now I don't feel like writing.

With each passing day, I move closer to using Pure Blog for baty.net. Kev as added a few convenience features and updates that make Pure Blog entirely capable of running my site. It's the content that scares me. Even though Pure Blog uses "standard" YAML front matter, baty.net has adopted a half-dozen of those standards over the years. Converting everything would be a chore I'm not interested in. But (and this is a huge but), what if I started fresh? GASP! I know, I know. I'm seriously considering it, though.
